# What does this implement/fix? An Edifier MS50A played nothing over AirPlay 2 while Music Assistant showed it happily playing — forcing RAOP was the only way to hear it. The speaker's audio pipeline starves unless enough audio is queued ahead of it, and the depth it was given was well below what it needs. It shared a value with the newer LinkPlay platform (WiiM and friends), but the two starve at very different depths. Measured on the device: silent at 2250 ms, plays from 2500 ms — which matches the 2250 ms pipeline the same speaker declares as its RAOP latency. Every value it has ever been given (600, 1000, 1750) was below that. - The older LinkPlay family gets its own buffer depth of 2500 ms instead of inheriting the newer platform's 1750 ms. WiiM devices are unchanged. - The *Audio buffer depth* setting offers 2000/2500/3000 ms, so deeper devices can be tuned without a release. - Setting description now mentions pauses as well as skips — a deeper buffer delays both. Needed the airplay-cli fix in music-assistant/airplay-cli#61, which shipped in v0.4.15: the binary refused any depth over 1750 ms for a speaker that reports no buffer of its own, so this setting could not reach the value the device needs. That release is pinned on `dev` as of #5619, and this branch is rebased onto it. Verified on the device across the full range — silent at 600/1000/1750/2000/2250, plays at 2500/3000 — with seek, track change and pause/resume all exercised at 2500 ms. Known trade-off: a deeper queue is also the audible latency of a warm boundary, so skips and pauses on this family take about 2.5 s to take effect. That is the cost of the device rendering at all. ## Types of changes - [x] Bugfix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue) — `bugfix` ## Checklist - [x] The code change is tested and works locally. - [x] `pre-commit run --all-files` passes. - [x] `pytest` passes, and tests have been added/updated under `tests/` where applicable. - [ ] For changes to shared models, the companion PR in `music-assistant/models` is linked. - [ ] For changes affecting the UI, the companion PR in `music-assistant/frontend` is linked. - [x] I have read and complied with the project's [AI Policy](https://github.com/music-assistant/.github/blob/main/AI_POLICY.md) for any AI-assisted contributions. - [ ] I have [raised a PR against the documentation repository](https://github.com/music-assistant/music-assistant.io/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) targeting the main or beta branch as appropriate.
