# What does this implement/fix? The play announcement action could only be given a link to an audio file. Announcing spoken text meant letting Home Assistant's text-to-speech action render it first, which loses the fine-grained options the Music Assistant action offers, such as the pre-announce chime. There was also no way to make an announcement from the Music Assistant interface at all. An announcement can now carry a text message instead of a link. Music Assistant speaks it with a text-to-speech engine and plays the result like any other announcement. - Play announcement now takes either a link or a message to speak (one or the other), plus an optional engine to speak it with - New "Announcement text-to-speech engine" setting under the player settings, which adopts the first available engine when it is not set - New command for clients to list the available text-to-speech engines, so the interface can offer an announcement action only when one is set up - Speaking a message to a group renders the audio once and hands the result to each member - Moved the text-to-speech rendering helper out of AI Radio so both features share it - Side effect of that sharing: the "no engine available" notice now sits next to the engine picker it explains, instead of under Generic (also affects the AI Radio, Music Quiz and Smart Playlist pickers) **Related issue (if applicable):** - n/a Companion frontend PR: https://github.com/music-assistant/frontend/pull/2458 ## Types of changes - [ ] Bugfix (non-breaking change which fixes an issue) — `bugfix` - [ ] New feature (non-breaking change which adds functionality) — `new-feature` - [x] Enhancement to an existing feature — `enhancement` - [ ] New music/player/metadata/plugin provider — `new-provider` - [ ] Breaking change (fix or feature that would cause existing functionality to not work as expected) — `breaking-change` - [ ] Refactor (no behaviour change) — `refactor` - [ ] Documentation only — `documentation` - [ ] Maintenance / chore — `maintenance` - [ ] CI / workflow change — `ci` - [ ] Dependencies bump — `dependencies` ## Checklist - [x] The code change is tested and works locally. - [x] `pre-commit run --all-files` passes. - [x] `pytest` passes, and tests have been added/updated under `tests/` where applicable. - [ ] For changes to shared models, the companion PR in `music-assistant/models` is linked. - [x] For changes affecting the UI, the companion PR in `music-assistant/frontend` is linked. - [x] I have read and complied with the project's [AI Policy](https://github.com/music-assistant/.github/blob/main/AI_POLICY.md) for any AI-assisted contributions. - [ ] I have [raised a PR against the documentation repository](https://github.com/music-assistant/music-assistant.io/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md) targeting the main or beta branch as appropriate.
